Opes Financial

Financial planning in Australia, minus the jargon.

Financial planning in Australia is usually written from one slice of your life — the super, or the insurance, or the loan. We'd rather look at the lot at once: what you earn, what you owe, what you're covered for, and what you want to be doing in twenty years. Then we write down what to do about it, in words you can actually follow.

An overhead crop of a writing desk with a folded financial newspaper, leather notebook, pencil notes, and a cup of black tea.

Who we work with.

A fair few of our clients are doctors — enough that there's a whole page on advice for doctors and specialists. But the brief is the same for everyone: people who want a plan rather than a product pitch. If retirement is the thing on your mind, the retirement planning hub pulls super, Centrelink and property into one place.

  • 01Doctors and specialists.
  • 02People in their twenties and thirties earning well and not sure what to do with it.
  • 03People near or in retirement, sorting out super, Centrelink and aged care.
  • 04Small business owners, and Australians living or working overseas.
  • 05Households earning more than $200,000 between them.

What you actually get.

A written plan — formally, a Statement of Advice. It sets out what to do and why, and we sit down and go through it with you rather than emailing it over and wishing you luck. We review it with you each year, because jobs, kids and rules all change. Fees depend on what's involved and are agreed in writing before we start. Meet us in Docklands, or over video from anywhere in Australia.

Frequently asked

Questions we get a lot.

It depends on how complicated your situation is and what ends up being recommended. We quote in writing after the first conversation, so there's nothing to guess at and nothing added later. The first conversation itself is free.

Not for advice. If the plan involves managed funds we start at a $50,000 portfolio, because below that the fees eat most of the benefit. Advice on super, insurance and strategy doesn't have a minimum at all.

HUB24, Praemium and IOOF. We pick the platform to suit the strategy, never the other way round.

Yes. We're at Suite 11.18, 401 Docklands Drive, Docklands. Video meetings run Australia-wide, Monday to Friday between 8am and 7pm AEST, and most of our clients do it that way.

No. Financial planning stands on its own here. We only bring the lending or the property side in if your plan actually calls for it — and if we do, we'll tell you why.

The first conversation is free and you're not signing up to anything by having it. If a written plan isn't worth the money in your case, we'll tell you that instead.
