Opes Financial

A financial adviser for Darwin, delivered virtually.

One practice, three services. Financial planning, mortgage broking and buyer's agent through a licensed partner. Darwin and NT clients engage by video and phone.

How we work with Darwin clients.

Every meeting runs on Zoom or Teams. Document exchange happens through secure upload, and signatures are captured electronically. The NT is a smaller market, and the practice has serviced Darwin clients this way for years.

Hours run 8am to 7pm AEST, which puts us roughly half an hour ahead of Darwin in the dry and ninety minutes ahead in the build-up and wet. Most calls slot into the morning Darwin time, which suits clients on FIFO or NT government rotations.

Phone is available on 1300 67 37 37 or 0419 506 560. A typical engagement runs across three contact points whether the conversation is about planning, broking, buyer's agent work, or all three.

Darwin is a small market. The work runs virtually, and it works.

The practice runs out of Suite 11.18, 401 Docklands Drive, Melbourne. The NT is too small a market to justify a Darwin office, and Darwin clients have engaged the practice by video for years. The advice itself is delivered under federal AFSL and ACL authorisations that apply across every Australian state and territory.

We have combined planning, broking and buyer's agent into a single page for Darwin because the volume per pillar is low and most NT files touch more than one of the three services. The scope inside each pillar is identical to our other locations.

In practice
  • All meetings by video or phone.
  • No in-person option in the NT.
  • Same adviser, same broker, same scope.
Three pillars under one roof

What we do for Darwin clients.

Pillar 01

Financial planning

Retirement, super, insurance and tax-effective investing. Useful where households are on NT government, defence or FIFO rotations and need cash-flow structure that survives a posting change.

Pillar 02

Mortgage broking

Home loans, refinancing, investment and SMSF lending through a 50+ lender national panel. NT files are submitted on the same lender policies as Melbourne or Sydney files.

Pillar 03

Buyer's agent

Through a licensed partner. The licence sits with the partner, not Opes personally. Inspections, due diligence and negotiation are conducted by the licensed partner.

Darwin clients we work with.

Inner Darwin in Larrakeyah and Stuart Park. Coastal suburbs Nightcliff and Fannie Bay. Files include NT government professionals, defence personnel posted to the Darwin barracks, FIFO workers commuting to mine sites, and a steady share of small-business owners.

NT stamp duty is its own animal. The Territory uses a tiered scale rather than the bracket structures common in NSW and Victoria, and concessions for first home buyers and senior pensioners are NT-specific. We work through the numbers with the household's NT conveyancer before any loan submission goes in. The stamp duty calculator covers every state and territory and is a reasonable first read.

Property values across Darwin sit well below Sydney and Melbourne medians, which means the planning brief is often less about leverage capacity and more about super, insurance and what to do with surplus cash flow on a remote-area allowance. A pass through the borrowing capacity calculator is a useful starting point, and investor-led briefs feed into the wider property investment hub. For southern-state buyers looking at remote-area income, the expat and returnee page covers the related lender policies.

What we cover.

01

Retirement and super

Drawdown sequencing, transition-to-retirement, fund selection and consolidation. Equally relevant for NT government and private-sector files.

02

Personal risk insurance

Income protection, TPD, trauma, life cover. Particularly relevant for FIFO and defence households with concentrated income risk.

03

Owner-occupier and investment lending

Home loans for Darwin owner-occupier files and investment loans for NT clients buying interstate, which is a common pattern.

04

Refinancing

Rate review, equity release, debt consolidation. NT borrowers are often under-served by local broker coverage and end up on retention pricing.

05

SMSF lending

LRBAs through specialist SMSF lenders for NT trustees. Coordinated with the trustee's accountant.

06

Buyer's agent (partner)

Through the licensed partner. Used most often for NT clients buying interstate in Brisbane, Melbourne or SE Queensland.

What Darwin clients usually ask first.

No. The practice runs from Docklands, Melbourne. Darwin and NT clients engage by video and phone. The NT is too small a market to justify a local office, and clients have engaged the practice this way for years.
Yes. Financial planning is delivered as an Authorised Representative of La Verne Capital. Mortgage broking is delivered as an Authorised Credit Representative of Outsource Financial. Buyer's agent work runs through a third-party licensed partner. All three are coordinated under the Opes brand.
Before any loan submission goes in, we work through the NT Revenue stamp duty position with the household's NT conveyancer. The Territory scale and first home concessions are different to NSW and Victoria, and the numbers need to be right before settlement timing is locked.
Some lenders treat remote-area allowance, LAFHA and rotation income differently. That is a lender-selection question rather than a structural problem, and the panel has several options that handle posted-income files well.
No. The first conversation is a free virtual consultation. A discussion of goals and constraints, not a sales pitch, with no obligation to proceed.

Start with a virtual first call.

Thirty minutes by phone or video. Whether the conversation is about planning, broking or buyer's agent work, the first call is the same.
