Opes Financial

A financial planner for Sydney clients, delivered virtually.

A financial planner covering retirement, superannuation, insurance and tax-effective investing for clients across Sydney and NSW. Meetings by video. Service level identical to in-person engagements.

Sydney's inner-west at twilight with the Anzac Bridge in the distance.

How we work with Sydney clients.

Every meeting runs on Zoom or Teams. Document exchange happens through secure upload, and signatures are captured electronically. Sydney clients have engaged the practice this way for years. None of it is new.

Hours run 8am to 7pm AEST. Useful for clients in the eastern suburbs catching an early call before work, and for shift-pattern clinicians from RPA or Royal North Shore who can only talk after 6.

Phone is available on 1300 67 37 37 or 0419 506 560. Most files run on a mix of one introductory call, one strategy meeting, and one Statement of Advice walkthrough.

There is no Sydney office. We have been clear about that for years.

A previous Sydney office at Level 8, 70 Pitt Street operated for a period and was closed years ago. We do not list it as an active location because clients cannot meet us there. The Pitt Street address still appears in old directory listings outside our control. It is not somewhere to visit.

The practice runs out of Suite 11.18, 401 Docklands Drive, Melbourne. Service coverage is Australia-wide. There are no postcode restrictions on the advice.

What this means in practice
  • All meetings by video or phone.
  • No in-person option in NSW.
  • The same adviser, the same scope, the same fees.

What we advise on for Sydney clients.

01

Retirement and transition

Drawdown sequencing, transition-to-retirement strategies, and the final ten working years. Equally applicable in NSW as in Victoria.

02

Superannuation, accumulation

Fund selection, consolidation of legacy accounts, salary sacrifice and co-contribution. The structural work most Sydney professionals neglect.

03

Personal risk insurance

Income protection, TPD, trauma, life cover. Business insurance for self-employed clients. Sized to the household, not to a target premium.

04

Tax-effective investing

Negative gearing, franking credits, ownership structures. Coordinated with the household accountant in Sydney or interstate.

05

Education, aged care, Centrelink

Children's education funding, aged-care fee planning, Centrelink optimisation. Eligibility rules are federal and travel with the client.

06

SMSF strategy alongside

SMSF advice itself sits outside this AR. SMSF lending and the broader strategy are handled within the practice for NSW trustees.

Comprehensive advice is delivered as a written Statement of Advice. Minimum engagement for managed-fund investment is $50,000.

Sydney clients we work with.

White-collar professionals on incomes above $200,000. Doctors and specialists are a deliberate focus, and the work with medical households has existing testimonials from practising specialists who started as Sydney files.

Pre-retirees inside the final ten working years often start with retirement and drawdown work, frequently routed through the wider retirement planning hub. Young professionals in the 25 to 35 wealth-building stage. Returning expats with NSW-based assets, where the work often starts with super consolidation and risk insurance before anything else.

Sydney loan sizes typically run higher than Melbourne, which changes the cash-flow side of the plan rather than the structural side. A run through the borrowing capacity calculator often becomes the prompt for a planning call. The advice does not become a different shape because the postcode starts with a 2.

What Sydney clients usually ask first.

No. A previous Sydney office at Level 8, 70 Pitt Street was closed years ago. The Pitt Street address still appears in some old directory listings outside our control. The practice runs from Docklands, Melbourne. Sydney engagements run by video.
A calendar invite with a Zoom or Teams link, sent in advance. Documents are uploaded through a secure portal beforehand. The Statement of Advice is delivered electronically and walked through in a screen-share session. No couriers, no printed binders.
Yes. Most state-specific work is on the property side, and we coordinate with the household's NSW solicitor. The financial advice itself is delivered under a federal AFSL, which is the same in any state.
Electronically. We use compliant e-signing for the Statement of Advice, authority forms, and any lender or insurer documentation that accepts it. Physical signatures are only used where a counterparty still requires them.
No. The first conversation is a free virtual consultation. It is a discussion of goals and constraints, not a sales pitch, and there is no obligation to proceed.

Thirty minutes by phone or video. The same conversation Sydney clients have had with us for years.
