Opes Financial

A financial planner for Gold Coast clients, delivered virtually.

A financial planner covering retirement, superannuation, insurance and tax-effective investing for clients across the Gold Coast and south-east Queensland. Meetings by video. National lender panel and adviser scope identical to in-person engagements.

How we work with Gold Coast clients.

Every meeting runs on Zoom or Teams. Documents move through a secure portal and signatures are captured electronically. The practice has worked with Queensland clients this way for years and the workflow is settled.

Hours run 8am to 7pm AEST, which is the same clock for Gold Coast clients outside daylight saving. We hold late slots for clients who can only talk at the end of the working day.

Phone is available on 1300 67 37 37 or 0419 506 560. Most files run as one introductory call, one strategy meeting, and one Statement of Advice walkthrough.

There is no Gold Coast office. Service is virtual, and has been from the start.

The practice runs from Suite 11.18, 401 Docklands Drive, Melbourne. Gold Coast and broader south-east Queensland engagements happen by video and phone. There is no postcode restriction on the advice and no surcharge for clients outside Victoria.

Coverage extends north to Brisbane and south into the Tweed and northern New South Wales for clients whose lives sit across the border.

What this means in practice
  • All meetings by video or phone.
  • No in-person option in Queensland.
  • Same adviser, same scope, same fees.

What we advise on for Gold Coast clients.

01

Retirement and transition

Drawdown sequencing, transition-to-retirement strategies, and the final ten working years. A common Gold Coast brief, often after a sea-change move.

02

Superannuation, accumulation

Fund selection, consolidation of legacy accounts, salary sacrifice and co-contribution. The structural work most clients neglect until their 40s.

03

Personal risk insurance

Income protection, TPD, trauma, life cover. Business insurance for self-employed clients, which is a sizeable Gold Coast cohort.

04

Tax-effective investing

Negative gearing, franking credits, ownership structures. Coordinated with the household accountant, in Queensland or interstate.

05

Education, aged care, Centrelink

Children's education funding, aged-care fee planning, Centrelink optimisation. Eligibility rules are federal and travel with the client.

06

SMSF strategy alongside

SMSF advice itself sits outside this AR. SMSF lending and the broader strategy are handled within the practice for Queensland trustees.

Comprehensive advice is delivered as a written Statement of Advice. Minimum engagement for managed-fund investment is $50,000.

Gold Coast clients we work with.

A meaningful share of Gold Coast files are interstate buyers and lifestyle relocators, often from Sydney or Melbourne, who hold property here and continue to work, invest or run a business down south. The planning brief crosses two state revenue offices and one federal tax position at the same time.

Local owner-occupiers and pre-retirees make up the other half. Doctors and specialists from the Gold Coast University Hospital catchment are a deliberate focus. Self-employed business owners in hospitality, trades and professional services are common, and the work often starts with risk insurance and super consolidation. Pre-retirees move into retirement and drawdown planning, supported by the wider retirement planning hub.

Lifestyle buyers tend to under-insure and over-leverage. A read of the borrowing capacity calculator is a useful sanity check on what the move actually supports. The plan reframes the household around the move rather than around the postcode it ended up in.

What Gold Coast clients usually ask first.

No. The practice runs out of Docklands in Melbourne. Gold Coast engagements have run by video and phone since the practice started taking Queensland clients. There is no in-person option north of the border.
A calendar invite with a Zoom or Teams link, sent in advance. Documents are uploaded through a secure portal beforehand. The Statement of Advice is delivered electronically and walked through in a screen-share session. No couriers, no printed binders.
Yes. A significant share of the Gold Coast book is exactly this profile. Federal advice is the same across borders. Property structures are handled in coordination with conveyancers in each state.
Electronically. We use compliant e-signing for the Statement of Advice, authority forms, and any lender or insurer documentation that accepts it. Physical signatures are only used where a counterparty still requires them.
No. The first conversation is a free virtual consultation. It is a discussion of goals and constraints, not a sales pitch, and there is no obligation to proceed.
