Opes Financial

A financial planner for Gold Coast, wherever you are.

A financial planner covering retirement, super, insurance and keeping your tax bill down, for clients across the Gold Coast and south-east Queensland. We meet over video. You get exactly the same adviser, the same advice and the same fees as anyone who walks into the office.

How it works if you’re in Gold Coast.

Every meeting runs on Zoom or Teams. Documents move through a secure portal and signatures are captured electronically. The practice has worked with Queensland clients this way for years and the workflow is settled.

Hours run 8am to 7pm AEST, which is the same clock for Gold Coast clients outside daylight saving. We hold late slots for clients who can only talk at the end of the working day.

Phone is available on 1300 67 37 37 or 0419 506 560. Most files run as one introductory call, one strategy meeting, and one Statement of Advice walkthrough.

There is no Gold Coast office. Service is virtual, and has been from the start.

The practice runs from Suite 11.18, 401 Docklands Drive, Melbourne. Gold Coast and broader south-east Queensland engagements happen by video and phone. There is no postcode restriction on the advice and no surcharge for clients outside Victoria.

Coverage extends north to Brisbane and south into the Tweed and northern New South Wales for clients whose lives sit across the border.

What that means for you
  • Everything over video or the phone.
  • We can’t meet you face to face in Queensland.
  • Same adviser, same scope, same fees.

What we can help with.

01

Retirement and transition

Drawdown sequencing, transition-to-retirement strategies, and the final ten working years. A common Gold Coast brief, often after a sea-change move.

02

Superannuation, accumulation

Fund selection, consolidation of legacy accounts, salary sacrifice and co-contribution. The structural work most clients neglect until their 40s.

03

Personal risk insurance

Income protection, TPD, trauma, life cover. Business insurance for self-employed clients, which is a big group on the Gold Coast.

04

Tax-effective investing

Negative gearing, franking credits, ownership structures. Coordinated with the household accountant, in Queensland or interstate.

05

Education, aged care, Centrelink

Paying for school and uni, the cost of aged care, and getting the Centrelink you're entitled to. These rules are federal, so they follow you wherever you live.

06

SMSF strategy alongside

Advice on setting up a fund sits outside this licence. The lending and the wider strategy we handle in-house for Queensland trustees.

You get the advice in writing — formally, a Statement of Advice. If it involves managed funds, we start at a $50,000 portfolio.

Who we work with in Gold Coast.

A meaningful share of Gold Coast files are interstate buyers and lifestyle relocators, often from Sydney or Melbourne, who hold property here and continue to work, invest or run a business down south. The planning brief crosses two state revenue offices and one federal tax position at the same time.

Local owner-occupiers and pre-retirees make up the other half. Doctors and specialists from the Gold Coast University Hospital catchment are a deliberate focus. Self-employed business owners in hospitality, trades and professional services are common, and the work often starts with risk insurance and super consolidation. Pre-retirees move into retirement and drawdown planning, supported by the wider retirement planning hub.

Lifestyle buyers tend to be underinsured and to borrow too much. A read of the borrowing capacity calculator is a useful sanity check on what the move actually supports. The plan reframes the household around the move rather than around the postcode it ended up in.

What people in Gold Coast ask first.

No. We work out of Docklands in Melbourne. Gold Coast engagements have run by video and phone since we started taking Queensland clients. There is no in-person option north of the border.
A calendar invite with a Zoom or Teams link, sent ahead of time. You upload your documents securely before we talk. Your written advice arrives electronically and we go through it together on a shared screen. No couriers, no ring binders.
Yes. A significant share of the Gold Coast book is exactly this profile. Federal advice is the same across borders. Property structures are handled in coordination with conveyancers in each state.
Online. We use proper e-signing for the written advice, the authority forms and any lender or insurer paperwork that allows it. Paper signatures only where someone still insists on one.
No. The first conversation is free and over video. It's about what you're trying to do and what's in the way — not a pitch — and you're not committing to anything by having it.
